A VTX is a vital piece of gear for any user who wants to see through the eyes of a drone. FPV.monster has a massive selection of drone VTX units, plus we sell drones, framesmotorspropellers, and other related equipment.

The VTX drone component is important for video feed, so you should choose a reliable option for the best experience. We provide different types of transmitters, so check out this post to understand what option to choose. You can also contact us for a consultation if you can't decide or need help.

What is VTX

A VTX is a video transmitter. This device takes the image from your camera and sends it as a radio wave to your goggles or monitor. The VTX FPV operates on certain frequencies, usually in the 5.8GHz range, so you can fly with other people without interference.

How the VTX Works

The camera captures light and turns it into an electrical signal. This signal travels to the VTX, which then encodes the data into a radio frequency. The drone VTX uses an antenna to broadcast this signal into the air. Your receiver on the ground picks up these waves and converts them back into a picture.

A VTX drone FPV must have power from a battery or a flight controller to function. The power level of the broadcast determines how far you can fly. High milliwatt settings increase range but also generate more heat.

Peculiarities of VTX

Each VTX drone has unique characteristics. These are the important features that transmitters have:

  • Frequency bands. Most units have 48 or more channels to prevent overlap with other pilots.
  • Power output. Common levels include 25mW, 200mW, 600mW, and 1W.
  • Physical size. Some boards use 20x20mm mounts, while others use 30x30mm or tiny stacks.
  • Heat sink. High-power units have metal plates to dissipate heat.
  • SmartAudio. This protocol lets you change channels through your radio stick commands.
  • Pit mode. This feature drops power to nearly zero so you don't crash other pilots when you plug in.

Analog vs. Digital: Which VTX to Select

The choice between analog and digital depends on your goal for the VTX drone FPV. Analog systems are the classic choice because they have almost zero latency. The image is less detailed, but the link is instantaneous. This is great for racers who need split-second reactions.

Digital systems have much higher resolution and look like an HD movie. However, digital gear is more expensive and has slightly more delay. Choose analog if you want a fast response. Pick digital if you want a beautiful view and don't mind a higher price tag.

Why Buy VTX?

You need a quality VTX FPV for several reasons:

  • It creates the link that makes FPV flight possible.
  • Newer models have better thermal management to prevent video loss.
  • A high-quality drone VTX has better signal filters to block noise from motors.
  • Compact designs are lightweight and fit into small frames.
  • Modern units have better crash resistance for durable builds.
  • Variable power levels let you fly indoors or at long distances.

FPV.monster has different options for all preferences, purposes, and budgets. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions regarding these transmitters.
